GIB DEIN BESTES! by BIRKE GORM at TØNDER ART MUSEUM [from 20240210 to 20240520]

The framework for the exhibition Gib dein Bestes! is a workday. In the museum's six studios, visitors move between home and workplace across the bright and dark hours of the day. We start at dawn, where the light slowly dawns. With a focus on work inside and outside the home, Birke Gorm is occupied with drawing connections between the present and the historical. During the preparations for the exhibition, Gorm has had access to Museum Sønderjylland's collection, and her newly produced works are inspired by the museum's bobbin lace.
The title of the exhibition sounds like a slogan from a career counselor. In Danish, we say 'Do your best!' But Birke Gorm has chosen to use the expression in German because it contains the meaning 'to give.' In German, the title reveals that it is a matter of exchange: Someone gives something to someone.
Birke Gorm (b. 1986 Hamburg, raised in Denmark). She works in Vienna and graduated from the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (2015-16) and the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien (2012-18). Birke Gorm has exhibited at MAK (Museum für angewandte Kunst) in Vienna, among others.
